The Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600 was introduced in the late 1980s, it represents Rolex’s commitment to creating reliable and robust watches for underwater exploration.
It has a very similar look to the Rolex Submariner, but the Sea-Dweller 16600 features a thicker case with a helium escape valve, allowing it to withstand extreme pressures encountered during deep-sea diving.
With a water resistance rating of up to 1,220 meters (4,000 feet), the Sea-Dweller 16600 is designed to meet the demands of professional divers. However, as with most Rolex dive watches, in reality it seldom sees water at all since it’s more of a luxury time piece.
The date window on the Submariner includes a cyclops lens, a magnifying lens mounted on the crystal directly above the date. The Sea-Dweller also has a date function, but without the cyclops lens on the crystal.
