I love wristwatches – Rolex Submariner 16610LV (Kermit)

Kermit 01

The Submariner needs no introduction in the watch world. The first model was introduced in 1954, and is regarded by many as the quintessential dive watch. Sean Connery had an early Submariner strapped to his wrist in his James Bond movies, and the “Sub” has had many revisions and updates through the years.

This model, nicknamed “Kermit” because of its green bezel, was launched in celebration of the Submariner’s 50th anniversary. The Kermit also features a so-called “maxi dial”, meaning the white hour markers are larger than on its black bezeled brother. The earlier Kermit models didn’t have engraved rehaut (“Rolex” engraved all the way on the case sides under the crystal), but the later models were engraved.

In 2010, the Kermit was discontinued, and a new green Sub emerged: The 116610 LV, nicknamed “Hulk”. However, many enthusiasts prefer the Rolex 5-digit series over the 6-digit, especially because of the 6-digits larger case. There is no doubt that the slim 16610 looks much better on a Nato strap than a 116610.
