The Marina Militare is a so-called “homage” watch. This means that it plays tribute to a famous brand by copying the design of the original. Marina Militare pays tribute to the well known Panerai brand, and this particular watch pays tribute to the Panerai Submersible. It is not a copy or replica, as long as it doesn’t have the original brands name on the dial, and this one even has some color choices that are different from the Panerai.
The watch is inexpensive, and you can often find it for as little as $100. The movement is a Chinese Sea Gull movement, and it actually is a hit and miss how good it is. The movement on my watch is quite accurate, it only gains 7 seconds in 24 hours.
Lots of watch enthusiasts frown upon homage watches, claiming that they are stealing design and are almost as bad as copies/replicas. In my opinion a homage watch is OK as long as it doesn’t use the originals brand name.
