3717

The IWC 3717 is a so-called “Flieger watch” (the word “Flieger” is the German word for “pilot”). The design of the Flieger originates from German WW2-watches, used by pilots as partly a flight instrument, with a diameter of 55mm.

Luckily, the IWC 3717 has a more moderate size than its predecessor. It has a diameter of 42mm, which makes it ideal as a sports watch. In my opinion, it can even be used with a suit for more formal circumstances. It is an option to get this watch on a steel bracelet, but it seems like most 3717 owners likes it best on a black or brown leather strap.

The IWC 3717 is a chronograph, which of course is a deviation from the original pilot watches. However, I think it suits this watch, and IWC has made this watch stand out by installing a red second hand at 9 o’clock.
